e-Residency card, if you take one
You apply online and pay the state fee, €150 until 31 December 2026, €165 from 1 January 2027, and the Police and Border Guard Board answers within 30 days. A founder with no card signs at a notary in Estonia, or sends a representative with a power of attorney.

We check the name, agree the capital, from €0.01, and arrange the legal address or the contact person that a company run from abroad gives the register.

You sign the application with your digital ID and pay the state fee. The company receives its registry code and can apply to Stripe, which lists Estonia; our Stripe guide shows how.
- 1 hour to 1 week4

We ask for the VAT number in the application that registers the company, or later when sales near €40,000 a year: Estonia VAT rates and registration. We send the account application to an online bank or a payment institution.

Books and first returns
Each month we file TSD, due on the 10th after a salary, a fee or a dividend, and the VAT return, due on the 20th. The annual report goes in within 6 months of the year end.

Who Estonia suits, and what you sign
0%Suits a founder who reinvests
Profit that stays in the company bears no income tax, so a founder who reinvests pays nothing until the payout.
22/78Less suited to an owner who pays out all profit
A company that pays out all its profit bears 22% of the gross amount. Fringe benefits, gifts and entertainment bear the same 22/78, so a month with no dividend can still carry tax.
ResidentHow the authorities see a company from abroad
The Tax and Customs Board treats the company as an Estonian resident. Run from another country, its income can be taxed there too, and e-Residency gives no exemption from that tax. The register asks for a legal address or a contact person.
Your IDWhat you sign and what we sign
You sign the application and the annual report with your digital ID and approve each return in your account on the Legarithm platform. We prepare every filing, and the director grants us the accountant's package in e-MTA.

Questions about a company in Estonia
Does the VAT number wait for the bank account in Estonia?
No, neither waits for the other. The VAT number can be asked for in the application that registers the company, and a capital of €50,000 or less needs no bank document. The account follows the registration.
Do I need accounting from the month of registration?
Yes. The company keeps books from the day it is registered. The first TSD falls due on the 10th after the first salary, fee or dividend, and the annual report within 6 months of the year end, also for a year with no sales.
Can an Estonian company owe tax in a month with no dividend?
Yes. Fringe benefits, gifts, entertainment and costs unrelated to the business bear 22/78 as well, and we declare them in TSD by the 10th of the next month. Profit kept in the company bears nothing.
How is a payout taxed in Estonia?
At 22/78 of the net amount, which is 22% of the gross. On a dividend of €7,800 the company pays €2,200 by the 10th of the next month, and the owner owes no further Estonian tax.
What happens when the contact person's term ends?
The register removes the entry on the day the term ends. A company left without one for 3 months past the registrar's deadline can be deleted, so we renew the contact person ahead of that date.
What does a director's fee cost an Estonian company?
On a fee of €2,000 the company withholds €440 of income tax and pays €660 of social tax. A director insured in another EU country shows an A1 certificate from there, and the Estonian social tax falls away. We calculate the fee and declare it in TSD by the 10th.
