Who keeps the Cyprus company register and where the free search is
The Cyprus company registry is the Companies Section of the Department of Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property, under the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry. On 31 August 2026 its register held 211,839 companies, 51,250 business names, 4,826 partnerships and 1,222 overseas companies.
The search is on the Registrar's e-filing portal, efiling.drcor.mcit.gov.cy, under Search, and companies.gov.cy links to it as eSearch. It asks for no account and no payment, and it works in Greek, English and Turkish. Search engines also list private sites that republish the register and resell its certificates. The official search is this one.
A company enters the register on the day it is incorporated. We file that registration and what follows it: company formation in Cyprus.
Cyprus company search by name and by registration number, step by step
- Open the Search page of the portal and choose English.
- To search by name, type the name or words from it in the Name field. Choose how to match: With all these words, With any of these words or Sound Like.
- To search by number, type the digits in the Reg. Number field.
- Press Go. The results give each name with its prefix and number, the type of entity, the name status and the organisation status.
- Open the line you want. The entry has the current details and four tabs: File Status, Directors & Secretaries, Registered Office and HE32 Archive.
- Open Preview File Documents at the top of the entry for the 20 most recent documents of the file.
A search that finds too many names stops with a request to narrow it, so add a word. One number can return four entities, because each kind is numbered apart. The prefix tells them apart, in Greek letters: ΗΕ for a company, ΕΕ for a business name, Σ for a partnership and ΑΕ for an overseas company.
The name status says which name you are reading. Current Name is the name in use. Previous Name is one the company has dropped. Name Application is a name that someone has applied for, with no number yet.
What the free search result shows about a company
| Part of the entry | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Current details | Name, registration number, type, private or public, name status, registration date, organisation status with its date, date of the last annual return |
| File Status | The date the file was last updated, and the filings and orders that are pending |
| Directors & Secretaries | The name and the role of each director and secretary in office |
| Registered Office | The address of the registered office |
| HE32 Archive | Each annual return the company has filed, with its date |
| Preview File Documents | The 20 most recent documents: description, form number, date and page of the file. Charges and mortgages and translations have lists of their own |
Names and addresses stand as they were filed, so many are in Greek letters. The free entry has no shareholders, no share capital and no document you can open. It is also what anyone sees about your own company: the names of your directors and secretary appear, their addresses do not. The results page prints the date of its last update: on the day of our search, 12 October 2026, it was that same day.
What costs money: the company file, certificates and certified copies
| What you order | Registrar's fee | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Detailed search of the file | €10 | The electronic file from the day of registration: the history of names, registered offices, directors, secretaries, members and share capital, charges registered after 2000 and every filed document |
| Certificate | €20 each | Of directors and secretary, of shareholders, of the registered office, of the share capital, of good standing, or that the company has no charges |
| Certified copy | €20 each | Of the certificate of incorporation, of a change of name or of a filed form |
| Certified copy of the memorandum and articles | €40 with your own copy, €50 without | The constitution of the company as filed |
| Accelerated procedure | €20 more for each document | The same certificate or copy, sooner |
The detailed search is the Study File item of the portal's menu. It opens the government's e-forms service, which asks for a sign-in with CY Login, the state's sign-in for online services.
A registered user of the e-filing system orders certificates and copies there and pays by card. Each arrives in the user's electronic workspace with an authenticity code. For 90 days from the day of issue anyone can check that code on the portal, under Confirmation of Authenticity. The Registrar's Certified Copies Section signs and seals paper copies.
What the organisation status means: active, struck off, in liquidation
On 12 October 2026 we looked up 84 round registration numbers, from HE 2500 to HE 470000. We met the statuses below, and none called struck off.
| Status in the portal | What it means |
|---|---|
| Active | The company is on the register. Read the date of the last annual return before you rely on the word |
| Reminder letter sent | The Registrar has written to the company about missing filings. The six entries we opened carry the date 9 February 2026, the day of the letters on overdue annual returns |
| Three month notice published | A notice in the Official Gazette says the company will be struck off three months later, unless cause is shown against it |
| Dissolved | The company no longer exists in law. Strike-off ends here: the law treats a struck-off company as dissolved |
| Members Voluntary Winding Up | The shareholders have resolved to wind the company up |
| Winding Up by the Court | A court has ordered the liquidation |
| Dissolution following Voluntary Liquidation, or following Liquidation | The liquidation has ended and the company is dissolved |
Of the 84 companies, 46 were Dissolved, 23 Active, 7 carried Reminder letter sent and 8 one of five other statuses. A company with that letter has until 31 December 2026 to file what is missing. The guide to company strike-off in Cyprus sets out the procedure and the way back.

What is not public: the register of beneficial owners
Ownership sits in three places. The directors and the secretary are free to see. The registered shareholders, called members, are in the €10 file and on a certificate of shareholders. The beneficial owners, the people who own or control the company in the end, are in a separate register. The company search does not reach it: the two registers are kept under different laws and are not connected.
The Registrar's page names who can search the register of beneficial owners today. The competent and supervisory authorities can. So can obliged entities such as banks, for €3.50 a company, once the Registrar approves their request. Access for the general public is suspended after a judgment of the Court of Justice of the EU. The register holds no data from before 12 March 2021.
Who else may apply, and what an owner's entry contains, is in the UBO register guide. Where a nominee director or shareholder in Cyprus sits on the board or holds the shares, the company search shows the nominee.
How to check a company's annual return and the annual levy
A company makes an annual return once in each calendar year and files it within 28 days of its date, for €20. The first one is made up 18 months after incorporation. Three places in the free entry show whether it keeps up.
- Last Annual Return Date, in the current details. A date older than a year and 28 days means a return is overdue.
- The HE32 Archive tab, which lists each return filed. HE32 is the form number of the annual return.
- The organisation status. Reminder letter sent or Three month notice published means the Registrar has already acted.
One entry we opened was registered on 20 March 2023 and showed no return at all. Its first return fell due in the autumn of 2024.
The annual levy of €350: repealed from 2024, still checked for earlier years
The yearly levy of €350 was repealed by Law 25(I)/2024, so nothing is due for 2024 or later. The levies of 2012 to 2023 stay payable, and on 30 September 2026 the Registrar announced the strike-off of companies that left them unpaid. To check, open the company through Annual Company Fee in the portal's menu. The entry then has one more tab, Statement of Annual Company Fee, with the years paid.
We file the annual return with the yearly accounts as part of accounting services in Cyprus.
Before you choose a name: how a founder uses the search
The Registrar refuses a name that is too similar to one on the register, so a registration starts with a search.
- Search the main word of your name with the option With any of these words, then with Sound Like.
- Read the name status of each hit. A Name Application is a name already applied for, and an approved name stays reserved for 6 months.
- Search the registered trade marks too. The Registrar's own examination goes beyond Cyprus companies and can refuse a name to protect an organisation abroad.
- Apply for the name: €10 a name, or €30 with the accelerated procedure. The result appears on the portal under Results of Name Examination.
A name with a restricted word needs the consent of the authority in charge. A name similar to an existing one is examined only with that entity's consent. The steps after the name are in the guide on how to register a company in Cyprus.
How a company corrects what the register shows: forms, fees, time limits
The register shows what the company has filed. To change an entry the company files the form for that change, by e-filing or on paper.
| Change | Form | Fee | Time limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Directors or secretary: appointment, resignation, new details | HE4 | €20 | 14 days from the change |
| Registered office | HE2 | €20 | 14 days from the change |
| Company name | Name approval, then the resolution | €10 and €40 | 15 days from the resolution |
| Transfer of shares | HE57 | €20 | 14 days from the transfer |
| Allotment of new shares | HE12 | €20 | One month from the allotment |
| Increase of the authorised capital | HE14 with the resolution | €40 | 15 days from the increase |
The accelerated procedure adds €20 to a filing. A change of officers, of the office or of shareholders filed late can bear a charge of €50 on the first day and €1 for each further day, €250 at most. After a change of name the Registrar issues a certificate of change of name and publishes the change in the Official Gazette.
The company secretary in each of our formation packages files these forms for you.
The buyer of a ready-made company reads the same entry before paying: shelf company in Cyprus.
