Cyprus Blue Card
Message us on Telegram or WhatsApp for fast assistance!
From July 2025, Cyprus introduced the EU Blue Card for highly skilled professionals from outside the EU. To qualify, you'll need a degree of at least three years, a contract of six months or more with an annual salary of at least €43,632, and a job offer in ICT, pharmaceuticals, or shipping.
The card is valid for up to three years, comes with EU mobility rights, and grants your family members unrestricted access to the labour market. Processing takes between 30 and 90 days. Legarithm guides you through the entire Blue Card process — from eligibility assessment to document submission.
Key Advantages of the Blue Card
Eligibility Requirements for Blue Card
Cyprus currently accepts Blue Card applications in 3 sectors: information & communication technology (ICT), pharmaceuticals, and shipping. If your industry isn’t listed, contact us about national work permit routes or watch for future sector expansions.
Option A: Higher Education Degree
- Minimum 3-year university degree program
- Applicable to all three sectors
- Must provide apostilled/legalized degree certificate
Option B: Professional Experience (ICT only)
- At least 3 years of relevant experience within the last 7 years
- Documented with contracts, references, project portfolios
- HR letters and verifiable employment records required
Application Process & Timeline
*Standard Applications 30-90 days from complete file submission. Timing depends on document completeness and the Migration Department workload.
*Note for Existing EU Blue Card Holders
If you already hold a valid EU Blue Card from another member state, Cyprus offers special mobility provisions. For short business trips, you can enter Cyprus for up to 90 days in any 180-day period using your existing card without applying for a new permit—simply bring your Blue Card, passport, and documentation of business purpose. For permanent relocation to Cyprus, after you’ve held your Blue Card and resided legally in your first EU state for at least 12 months, you may enter Cyprus and must submit a local Blue Card application within one month of arrival. The key advantage: you’re authorized to start working in Cyprus within 30 days of filing a complete application, even while the decision is pending. Long-term mobility cases typically process within 30 days.

Frequently Asked Questions
Still have questions?
Can I apply if I'm not in ICT, pharma research, or shipping?
No, not currently under the Blue Card. Cyprus has opened only these three sectors. If you’re outside them, we can explore national work permit routes or help you position for future sector expansions. Contact us to discuss alternatives.
Do I need a degree, or is experience enough?
Degree works for all sectors (minimum 3-year higher education program). Experience only works for ICT: minimum 3 years of relevant work within the last 7 years. Documentation must be thorough—contracts, references, project portfolios, and HR verification letters.
What if I already hold an EU Blue Card from another member state?
Short visits: Use your existing card to enter Cyprus for up to 90 days per 180-day period for business—no new permit needed. Full relocation: After 12 months in your first EU country, enter Cyprus, submit local Blue Card application within 1 month, and start working within 30 days of complete filing.
How long is the card valid, and can I renew it?
Initial validity: 24-36 months. Renewable as long as you still meet requirements (salary threshold, eligible sector, valid employment). File renewal applications 3 months before expiry to avoid gaps.
Can my spouse work in Cyprus?
Yes, effective immediately. Spouses admitted through family reunification have full access to the Cyprus labour market, including employment and self-employment. Register for social insurance and tax early to avoid payroll delays.
What happens if I change employers?
First 12 months: Notify immigration and secure approval before starting new role. Cyprus has a 30-day suspension period after filing the change—plan your transition carefully. After 12 months: Process is easier, but notification and compliance remain mandatory. New employer must meet Blue Card requirements.
Does the card get cancelled if I leave Cyprus for 90+ days?
No. Unlike many temporary permits, Cyprus does not cancel the Blue Card solely for absences over 90 consecutive days. Maintain your employment conditions and residence requirements. Document travel for renewal purposes. This flexibility suits regional roles requiring frequent travel.
