The Umm Al Quwain Free Trade Zone: what it is, who owns it, where it is
45 kmFrom Dubai, on the west coast
Umm Al Quwain is one of the seven emirates, on the west coast between Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah, 45 km from Dubai. Its free zone carries the name UAQ Free Trade Zone, or UAQ FTZ. Dubai International Airport is 30 minutes away by road.
1987A government authority
The Umm Al Quwain Free Trade Zone Authority, a government body of the emirate, registers the companies, licenses them and sponsors their visas. The zone opened in 1987 as Ahmed Bin Rashid Port and Free Zone and took its present name in 2014.
2 sitesThe port and Umm Al Thoub
The zone works from 2 sites, Ahmed Bin Rashid Port and Umm Al Thoub, and the E311, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, links it with Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Hutchison Ports has operated the port, four berths on a quay of 845 metres, since 2018.
More than 11,000 businesses, owned by people of 150 nationalities, hold the zone's license.
Which founders UAQ Free Trade Zone fits
UAQ LYTE is a licensed UAE company with a desk lease for AED 5,500 a year and no visa to pay for. Consultants, traders and residents who already hold a visa take it.
UAQ START joins the license with one residence visa, the medical test, the Emirates ID and medical insurance for AED 12,500.
A freelance permit lets one person work under their own name, for AED 9,999 with a visa, the Emirates ID, insurance and a workspace.
A commercial license takes 10 similar product lines or 3 different ones. A general trading license takes any goods allowed in the UAE.
An industrial license comes with a warehouse, from 100 square metres, or with a plot of leased land.
A company that plans many visas on a desk alone fits SPC Free Zone, which puts no limit on them. For a Dubai address on the license, see free zones in the UAE.
What clients write about Legarithm
4.8 on Google from 26 reviews.
We had long been looking for someone to register a company in the UAE and help with the account. With Legarithm it went as it should: a clear process, help with the documents, no red tape.
Everything is well coordinated and clear. Half an hour of the first meeting was more useful than two weeks of trying to work it out myself.
