Frequently Asked Questions
Still have a questions?
Can a foreigner set up?
Yes—100% foreign ownership, full profit repatriation, and streamlined setup for non‑residents.
Is the UAE a good place to start?
The GEM 2023/24 report ranks the UAE first globally for starting a business. The ecosystem is pro‑founder.
Can I operate outside the UAE?
Yes—RAKEZ free zone companies can transact internationally. Onshore UAE sales may require structuring with local agents or specific licensing.
How many visas can I get?
It depends on your office size and package. Upgrade space to increase quota.
Can I open a bank account?
Yes, with the right documents and narrative. Bank comfort improves with clear activities, clients, and substance.
How much does RAKEZ really cost in 2026?
Base license packages start at AED 5,500-8,000/year for a solo setup without visa. Add AED 6,500-10,000 for the 1-visa package. Visa application costs (medical, Emirates ID, stamping) are additional: approximately AED 3,500-5,000 per person. Total first-year cost for a single founder with investor visa typically lands at AED 18,000-25,000 all-in (~$4,900-6,800 USD). We give you a flat quote after a 20-minute intake call.
What is the difference between RAKEZ and IFZA?
Both are legitimate UAE free zones with 100% foreign ownership, 0% tax, and investor visas. The key differences: RAKEZ is in Ras Al Khaimah (Northern Emirates), IFZA is in Dubai Silicon Oasis. RAKEZ costs 40-60% less for comparable packages. IFZA offers a Dubai address which carries more prestige with certain PSPs and banks. RAKEZ issues 3-year investor visas; IFZA issues 2-year. RAKEZ has industrial zones (warehouses, factories); IFZA is primarily for service and tech businesses. For most consultants, traders, and digital businesses where the emirate address isn’t client-critical, RAKEZ is the rational choice on cost.
Can I open a UAE bank account with a RAKEZ license?
Yes. RAK Bank has a branch inside the RAKEZ complex, which makes in-person account opening straightforward for standard trading and service businesses. Emirates NBD, ADCB, and FAB are options too, though they require branch visits in Dubai. For businesses that need multi-currency or international wire capabilities beyond what UAE retail banks offer, we recommend supplementing with an EMI account. UAE business banking has tightened — we’ll advise on realistic options based on your business profile before you apply.
Does RAKEZ allow crypto or fintech businesses?
RAKEZ supports fintech and tech business activities, but crypto asset service providers (CASPs) in the UAE require a separate Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license from VARA (Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority), which is a Dubai-specific body. A RAKEZ entity can operate as a fintech holding company or software provider, but for regulated crypto exchange or custody activities in the UAE, you’ll need to work through the VARA framework — which we can also assist with.
Can I run my RAKEZ company without living in the UAE?
Yes — RAKEZ companies can be managed remotely. The investor visa is optional and doesn’t affect the company’s legal standing. Many clients use RAKEZ as a UAE trading or holding entity while remaining based elsewhere. The annual license renewal can be handled by Legarithm without your physical presence. If you do hold a RAKEZ investor visa, you’re required to enter the UAE at least once every 180 days to keep it active — a straightforward trip for most people, but worth knowing.
